About

The annual CoDEMO 5.0 Innovation Event is a dynamic platform where academic, industry, and student innovators meet to showcase forward-thinking projects aligned with the principles of Society 5.0. This year’s event will spotlight the International Student Innovation Award, celebrating innovative project contributions from students of the six HEI partners across key focus areas: sustainability, resilience, and human-centricity.

Join us for engaging demonstration sessions, inspiring keynotes, and interdisciplinary collaboration that drives the future of innovation.

CoDEMO 5.0 aims to enhance European innovation capacities in the field of value creation for 5.0 Organizations. Utilizing the framework of a 5.0 Society, the initiative seeks to foster alignment between Digital Innovation and Green Mindset, facilitating the evolution of businesses from a 4.0 paradigm, primarily centered on digitalization and technology, towards a 5.0 focus, emphasizing environmental sustainability, resilience, and human-centric approaches. The project aims to facilitate the seamless implementation of collaborative value-creation endeavors among socio-economic stakeholders, while also nurturing the development of novel innovative knowledge, skills, and competencies tailored for 5.0 decision-makers across diverse sectors.

We are looking forward to presentations from the students of our HEI partners as part of the International Student Innovation Award in the morning, as well as an afternoon of presentations from socio-economic stakeholders and industry experts on 5.0 technological advancements.

13:45 – 14:05: Industry 5.0 – How CIMES mobilizes its ecosystem with European projects

Presenter: Loic Marin, CIMES, France
Industry 5.0 is becoming an increasingly important benchmark for businesses. However, this benchmark remains unclear, especially since most companies have not yet fully embraced Industry 4.0. To anticipate demands and needs, the CIMES competitiveness cluster is participating in several European projects to raise awareness within its ecosystem and engage it in Industry 5.0 initiatives. Examples of the European projects RECENTRE and IDEALIST.

14:05 – 14:25: BRIDGES 5.0 – Skills for a just and inclusive transition

Presenter: Karina Maldonado-Mariscal, TU Dortmund, Germany
The Horizon Europe BRIDGES 5.0 project supports an inclusive digital and green transition by developing the skills of the workforce for Industry 5.0. Based on the European Commission’s evolving vision, Industry 5.0 emphasises human centricity, sustainability and resilience. BRIDGES 5.0 explores the changes and evolution of jobs and skill requirements, and assesses the effectiveness of new training and teaching approaches. This presentation introduces the project’s conceptual framework and explores emerging job and skill requirements, as well as innovative training approaches such as teaching and learning factories. Through stakeholder engagement, BRIDGES 5.0 aims to co-create a platform that equips workers with the skills needed for a sustainable and people-centred industrial future.

15:15 – 15:30: German University of Digital Science – Transforming Humboldt’s University into the Digital World

Presenter: Christoph Meinel, German University of Digital Science, Germany
With the first digital university in Germany, the newly founded German University of Digital Science (German UDS), we want to transfer Humboldt’s idea of the modern university to the digital world. Interested students from all over the world will be given the opportunity to study at a German university and receive a German university degree without having to come to Germany. The use of modern digital technologies in education allows Humboldt’s ideas of freedom and independence in teaching and research to be elaborated in the community of teachers and researchers. The very fair tuition fees open up access to higher education also for underprivileged people, e.g. from the Global South.

15:30 – 15:45: The Digital Alma Mater – Community, Academic Culture, and Innovation at German UDS

Presenter: Julia von Thienen, German University of Digital Science, Germany
How can a digital university recreate the deep sense of community, scholarship, and personal growth that has characterized the best physical universities for centuries? At German UDS, we believe the answer lies in reimagining, rather than replicating, analogue university traditions. Inspired by the enduring ideals of Humboldt’s University – a community of scholars and learners, the integration of research and education, and the cultivation of personal development (Bildung) – we are unveiling new paths for academic life in the digital age. German UDS is building a vibrant and resonant online experience, where community spirit, creativity, and critical inquiry flourish beyond the walls of a physical campus. Initiatives like Welcome Weeks, alongside institutions such as the Colleges for Design Thinking and Entrepreneurship, embody our commitment to fostering authentic relationships, individual as well as collective growth, and a living university culture – extending Humboldt’s university vision into the digital realm. This talk invites you to explore the research that reveals the unique challenges of forging deep human connections in fully online environments, and to discover the innovative solutions we are developing to break new ground in designing and facilitating a living online university culture, spirit, and academic life.
